It is Not all Doom and Gloom in the UK Business World

There is no doubt about it, as the norties come to an end, times are tough in many industries and business sectors. The truth however remains that even in the hardest of times, some businesses can still thrive, grow and make money.

The Federation of Small Businesses, the UK’s Leading Business Organisation have realized this and have just launched a Good News section on their website.

It is too easy to think that all businesses are struggling when we’re constantly faced with information from the media about house repossessions, job losses and a falling pound. The FSB are however proving that some UK businesses are still managing to prosper and grow in uncertain times.

Some of the good news they have reported on the economy includes:

• Royal Bank of Scotland has pledged to make £16 billion of loans available to small businesses after committing to lend £25 billion following further taxpayer support.

• Retail sales volume in the three months November to January rose by 1.5 per cent compared with the previous three months, according to the Office for National Statistics.

• 21,000 people set up a new business in December 2008, up from 20,000 the same time last year, Companies House figures show.
