Some of the leading charities in the UK are reporting tough times in light of the news that donations to their charity shops are substantially down.
Sue Ryder Care have reported stock levels to be down by 10 percent;whilst the British Heart Foundation have reported a 20 percent;fall in donations to their charity shops.
Mark Burdett, Associate Director of NCi Charity, the UK's Leading Provider of Charity Shop Insurance had this to say about this disturbing news, "Times are still clearly tough in the charity sector and charity shops are certainly included in this. The combination of fewer donations with increased traffic into the stores is not great for charity shops. With less disposable income in society as a whole, people are far more likely to keep hold of items they would have previously donated as they just can't afford replacement goods which they would have purchased in previous years. More and more people are also using sites such as EBay to sell unwanted items rather than donate them to charity. As Charity Shop Insurance experts we try and save our clients money on their insurance premiums and we hope this goes some way to helping them in these difficult times. I would also urge anyone who is looking to clean up their houses as Winter approaches to consider charity shops and make donations to them whenever possible. I've just done this myself and hope my unwanted clothes, shoes, CD's, DVD's and books go some way to helping the charities raise some much needed funds."
